This adventurous couple, Chris and Karin Spiess partners in life, parenting, and purpose made the bold move to South Africa in 2018 with their two children, embracing the unknown and a life lived outdoors. Since then, their family has grown with the joyful addition of their youngest daughter, and so has their passion for creating meaningful, nature-driven experiences.
Together, they founded Archery Adventures as a way to share their love for movement, discovery, and doing things a little differently. Whether it’s trying something new, venturing off the beaten path, or simply being present in the wild beauty around them, they’re committed to living deeply and inspiring others to do the same.
They believe in teamwork, both at home and in business, and their journey is proof that with courage, connection, and curiosity, anything is possible.

ABOUT Archery adventures
Archery Adventures began with a simple idea: to offer something fun, unique, and close-to-nature for guests visiting our small family-run lodge in Plettenberg Bay. After moving to South Africa in 2018, we settled on a beautiful piece of land and created a small archery range just steps from the pool area—an easy, exciting way for guests to try something new without leaving the comfort of the lodge.
Chris, with his love for adventure and innovation, saw the potential for something more. It wasn’t long before we connected with local archers who helped us establish a professional 3D archery course, designed to host official competitions. We were instantly hooked—not just by the sport itself, but by the community, the challenge, and the joy it brought to people of all ages.
What started as a small side activity quickly grew into a full-fledged adventure destination. As interest surged, we expanded our offerings and in 2023 made a big leap: relocating to a more central farm in Plettenberg Bay. This move was a true game changer. Karin stepped away from managing the lodge and joined Chris full-time, forming the perfect team behind Archery Adventures.
Today, we proudly operate two fully equipped, safe target ranges in Plettenberg Bay, offering a variety of packages tailored for both locals and tourists. From first-timers to seasoned archers, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
That same year, we expanded even further—opening a second branch at the stunning Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West. This site features two additional target ranges and a breathtaking 3D course set against the backdrop of the Helderberg Mountains.
At Lourensford, we’ve partnered with the well-established Clay Pigeon Adventures, combining forces to offer an even wider range of outdoor experiences. Guests can now enjoy activities such as axe throwing, clay pigeon shooting, remote control car rentals, and unique shooting packages that include Guns & Bows, Pyle, Byle & Bullets, and more.
